Prologue to Illumination
To make the bed is a ritual
surrender to daylight,
the uncomfortable habit
of shifting. Each day I wait
for the obvious to recede.
In darkness, love is ratified,
an amendment, the song
I sit around and wait for.
But this is not singing, love
unbidden, bearing through.
